High Intensity Support
High intensity support involves daily personal care activities that require specialized attention due to the higher health risks associated with them. These supports are designed for individuals with complex or chronic health conditions and physical disabilities, ensuring that their comfort and dignity are prioritized while maintaining their independence at home.
Here’s what is typically included in High Intensity Support :-
1) Urinary Catheter Management
Our qualified nurses provide safe and compassionate urinary catheter management to support comfort, hygiene, and dignity. We assist with catheter care, insertion and removal, drainage bag changes, and monitoring for infection or complications. Our team also provides education and training for participants and carers to promote independence and confidence in managing catheter needs at home.
2) Complex Bowel Care
Our experienced nursing team provides specialised support for participants requiring complex bowel care. Services include bowel assessments, medication administration, digital stimulation, enemas, and monitoring of bowel function to ensure safety, comfort, and dignity. We work closely with participants, families, and healthcare professionals to develop individualised bowel management plans that promote health, prevent complications, and support independence at home or in the community.
3) Enteral (Naso – Gastric Tube-Join Um or Duodenum)
Our skilled nursing team provides safe and compassionate enteral feeding support for participants who receive nutrition through a naso-gastric, jejunal, or duodenal tube.
We assist with tube care, feeding administration, medication delivery, and monitoring for signs of infection or blockage. Our nurses also provide education and guidance to participants, carers, and families to ensure feeding routines are managed confidently and safely at home.
4) Severe Dysphagia Management
Our qualified nurses provide specialised care for participants with severe dysphagia (swallowing difficulties) to support safe eating, drinking, and medication administration.
We work closely with speech pathologists, dietitians, and medical professionals to deliver personalised care plans that help reduce the risk of aspiration, choking, and malnutrition.
Services include monitoring swallowing safety, meal preparation support, feeding assistance, and education for carers and families.
5) Tracheostomy Management
Our qualified nursing team provides comprehensive tracheostomy care to support participants who require ongoing airway management.
We deliver routine tracheostomy care, suctioning, tube changes, stoma cleaning, humidification management, and emergency support to maintain airway safety and comfort.
6) Ventilator Management
Our experienced nursing team provides specialised ventilator management to support participants who rely on mechanical ventilation for breathing.
We deliver comprehensive care and monitoring, including ventilator setup, function checks, circuit changes, suctioning, humidification, and emergency response to ensure safe and effective respiratory support.
How to Access High Intensity Support Services?
- NDIS Plan : High Intensity Support is typically funded under the Core Supports category, specifically under Assistance with Daily Life. To access these services, participants must have high intensity personal care needs documented and approved in their NDIS plan. This includes support for tasks that require trained or specialised workers due to high medical risk or complex needs.
- Supporting Evidence : To receive this funding, participants need to provide clear evidence from health professionals (e.g., doctors, nurses, allied health practitioners) outlining the complexity and risks involved in their care. This may include medical reports, care plans, risk assessments, or behaviour support documentation.
- Support Coordination : Support Coordinators play a key role in helping participants access High Intensity Support. They assist with gathering documentation, requesting plan reviews (if needed), and connecting participants with experienced, NDIS-registered providers who are qualified to deliver high intensity services.
Benefits of High Intensity Support:
- Specialised Care for Complex Needs : High Intensity Support provides tailored assistance for individuals with complex medical, behavioural, or physical support needs. This ensures participants receive the right level of care from trained professionals..
- Qualified and Skilled Support Workers : Support is delivered by workers with specialised training (e.g., in PEG feeding, tracheostomy care, or seizure management), ensuring tasks are completed safely and in line with medical requirements.
- Improved Health and Safety : With professional oversight, participants experience fewer health complications, reduced hospital visits, and better management of chronic or high-risk conditions.
- Greater Independence and Quality of Life : By receiving the right level of support, participants can live more independently in their own homes or community settings while still having access to essential care.
- Alignment with NDIS Goals : High Intensity Support helps participants work toward their NDIS goals, whether that’s staying healthy, building independence, or living in a safe and supported environment.
